From the recordings Clouds and Been There, Done That!
Sometimes we forget that Satan is real. Not only is he real, but he's actively trying to thwart our progress. He wants us to be miserable, just like he is! I have become convinced that one of Satan's greatest weapons is our own thoughts. He's a master at sliding one little negative thought into our brains; then we are all too eager to latch onto it, record it onto mental audio tape and play it on continuous repeat throughout our subconscious. "I'm not good enough"..."I'm not pretty enough"..."I'm not thin enough"..."I'm not successful enough"...Pretty soon those morph into "No one could ever want me"..."I'm not worthy of love"..."I've done too much to be forgiven"..."I don't deserve to be happy." Then there's the ultimate deception: "Those other people might be worthy of peace and joy in their lives, but not me. I'm different. It's not in the cards for me."
We've got to actively tell ourselves that these thoughts are just clouds that blur our clear vision of ourselves! They're not reality. Satan has put them there just to mess us up, because he knows how eager we are to help him do it by believing every negative thing he says. I am the champion at latching onto the negative. This song is a straightforward story of my personal battle to remember to recognize those clouds for what they are and to overcome them--because I can! And so can we all!
Lyrics
In my life, I've walked down many roads,
Some went in circles, leading me where I was before.
And walkin' roads what weren't always easy
Gave me the strength to believe in me.
I learned that I could follow a light that shines before me--
The gospel of our resurrected Lord.
But there's a force of darkness tryin' to overcome the sunshine--
An enemy with many tricks in store.
Chorus:
He blows clouds, black and smoky clouds,
Right before my eyes
To hide the good in me
And fill my head with lies.
Cause he knows if he can discourage me,
I might give up the fight.
And so he blows his clouds before my eyes.
Every day I walk a little further
And sometimes I stop when I reach a steep and rocky climb.
And all my past mistakes come rushing back to me
Making it hard to believe I can succeed.
I know I can't go on alone, but I feel so unworthy
To ask the Lord for help of any kind.
At times like these, all I can see is how I'm sadly failing.
And I don't have the courage left to try.
Chorus:
A glimmer of sweet light breaks through the darkness that surrounds me--
The Shepherd left his ninety and nine,
To find this one who's gone astray--
It seems He loves me anyway!
So I can leave dispairing thoughts behind!
Chorus:
