I started this song many years ago, but it took time and experience for the second half to gel the way I wanted it to. Over my lifetime, and my single years in particular, I've met so many wonderful people who have been paralyzed by their pasts in some way. We all have a history--and baggage of some kind. It is part of what makes us who we are. Sometimes, though, we can fall into the trap of allowing events and feelings of the past to create fears and other destructive feelings that consume us. That trap can become a virtual prison for our spirits. The cool thing is that we each hold the key to our jail cell doors--all we have to do is decide to turn it; to leave the past behind.

Lyrics

I know how many times you've tried--
How hard it's been to find that lasting peace inside.
I've been there too, in your shoes.
I know how many tears you've cried.
It hurts admitting that your heart is full of pride
And you were wrong; you're not that strong.
But sometimes,
We can learn the most from when we fail.
It's how we grow.
Just let it go!

Chorus:
Leave the past behind
When you've done all you can do.
Leave the past behind
And let the Savior's love shine through.
He has overcome the world,
Already paid the price.
Let him take your pain away
And give you wings to fly!
Just leave the past behind.

I see you through the Savior's eyes:
A precious child of God who struggles to survive
Inside your wall. You gave your all.
Yet in your mind it isn't so.
All you can see are the mistakes you can't let go
And time, again, you drink them in.
But sometimes,
We can learn the most from when we fail.
It's how we grow.
Just let it go!

Chorus:

All by yourself, you'll never win.
You can't be free until you let the Savior in.
It's up to you. What will you choose?

Oh, let go!
Leave the past behind!
