This is one of my older songs. I had a church leader once who used to always remind us to ask ourselves, "What would Jesus do?" when we were faced with a choice. During one of my moments of truth--a defining time in my life--I was reminded of his counsel and wrote this song about my feelings.

My head's so filled with earthly voices, I can't tell what I hear.
Trials and temptations blind me, I can't see the way clear.
And I can't find the line where my agency ends, and where true selfishness begins.
In my heart I know that I must ask some questions to determine right from wrong
And where I belong
And so I ponder:
What would the Lord say?
What would He do?
If he were in my shoes,
What would He do?
I know my Savior loves me, and whenever I'm in tune
His example guides me so I know what I should do.
Though there're times I do struggle, and I find that I am torn,
Bearing burdens very heavy to be borne.
There are pretty things that look so good to me,
But I can't tell if they're all they seem to be.
And so I ponder:
What would the Lord say?
What would He do?
If He were in my shoes,
What would He do?
When this life is over, I'll kneel before my Maker
And He will look inside my heart, so see if I've been true.
What a peaceful feeling--blessed reassurance!
To know that I have tried my best to do
What He would do.
